HAN: How Impact Investing Can Drive Diverse Innovation
Collaboration Partner Event
October 25
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Station Houston
1301 Fannin Street, Suite 2440
Houston, TX 77002

Impact investing is rising, with more than $60 billion in assets under management and the potential to grow quickly into the trillions. At the same time, income inequality is increasing in the United States and, as a recent Pew Research Center poll attests, there remain striking differences in Americans’ perception of economic opportunity depending on one’s race or ethnicity. Could impact investing help reverse these disparities and perceptions by making entrepreneurship more accessible to diverse populations?

There is great potential for impact investing to stimulate local and global economies. But for that to happen, investors need to overcome entrenched barriers and practices that often result in decreased social equity.

Join the Houston Angel Network to discuss how investments can help:

  • Definition of impact investing
  • The entrepreneurs perspective: social entrepreneurship.
  • The investor’s perspective; impact investment funds
  • Impact investing and foundations, venture plilanthropy
  • Impact measurement or ROI

It’s an open secret that innovative energy and healthcare startups have a hard time raising funding from traditional sources. In addition to the challenges that already face tech startups, companies in these industries also face the complex challenges of operating in high-stakes spaces with risk-averse stakeholders. This combination leads to longer lead times, sales cycles, acceptance and adoption of new technologies, and so on…with all of these challenges leading to points of concern for investors.

Join the Houston Angel Network to learn how investors and startups alike have faced, addressed, and overcome many of these challenges to ensure that promising ideas and innovation from energy and health tech companies get the capital they need to survive and thrive.
